Why are people in Africa going needlessly blind?  For sure, the reasons are many, varied and complex.  And there are other related questions such as 'why are women and girls affected more than men and boys?'  I travel to Africa and to Uganda in particular many times a year and am trying to answer these questions.

Why does this matter?  It matters because everybody deserves access to good healthcare.  It should not be that a people living in poor countries die yet those living in rich countries survive.  It should not be that people in poor countries go blind for want of a simple operation available for free in rich countries.  It should not be that these massive healthcare inequalities exist at all.
